Cassandra Soniat-Boyd has been dancing since she was 3 years old, receiving most of her dance instruction from Phyllis Guy, where she attended as a student for 15 years. As a dancer with PGDC, Cassandra received numerous high score awards and national recognition with their competitive team. In 2006, Cassandra was awarded PGDC Teen Dancer of the Year, and was a prime soloist 5 times, holding the lead role in 2008, as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. During high school, Cassandra was a member of the Central High School Kittens dance team for 4 years. In those 4 years, she received the outstanding dancer award each year & was the Captain of the dance team her senior year. She furthered her studies with Kris Cangelosi for 5 years, and from 2011-2012 she was a member of the Cangelosi Dance Project Professional Company, Ballet Ensemble. Cassandra attended Dance Master’s, Student Honors Intensive Program (S.H.I.P) in New York and was also accepted to the American Ballet Theater’s Summer Intensive Program. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Fine Arts degree and a Minor in Dance and previously attended LSU where she was a 2-year member of the LSU Dance Ensemble. Cassandra recently took on an art teacher position in the Central School System and served as head choreographer of the Central High Kittens for 2 years. Cassandra now dances professionally with Baton Rouge's professional contemporary dance company, Of Moving Colors Production, under the Artistic Direction of Garland Goodwin-Wilson. She has taught at several studios in the Baton Rouge Area and has been a part the faculty at RAVE for six years. This summer, Cassandra earned her Dance Masters of America certification through examinations and studied at the Dance Masters of America Teacher Training Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She will be sworn into active membership of the 37th chapter of DMA - Dixie Dance Masters this fall.
